Tightening Exilis Treatment Procedure

  • The Exilis is a radiofrequency (RF) device that delivers high energy in a controlled fashion to the dermal/ subcutaneous layers of the skin.

  • By using different wave settings, the energy can penetrate the skin and heat up some of the different layers by using radio frequency waves.

  • By delivering the radiofrequency deeper into the tissues, the Exilis technology can “melt away” the fat.

Potential Risks

  • Since the procedure is performed in a non-invasive manner, risks and hazards related to conventional fat and cellulite reduction are greatly reduced.

  • There may be some mild discomfort after the procedure, but it usually subsides quickly.

  • Does exilis hurt?

The Exilis skin tightening and fat removal treatment was designed to be painless and comfortable. There are no needles or injections involved, and most patients tolerate the procedure very well, without the need for any topical anaesthetics.

  • How is exilis different than liposuction?

Liposuction is an invasive procedure that removes the entire area of fat cells from deposits beneath the skin. It can result in bruising, downtime, risk of infection and pain. In addition, there can be complications with the anesthesia, scarring, bleeding and blood clots. The Exilis treatment is non-invasive and uses radio frequency that is applied externally to stimulate the fat cell and emulsify and release fat. There is no use of anesthesia, nor any pain, gels, creams, numbing agents, needles and minimal downtime, if at all.

  • How many treatments do I need?

The course of treatment is generally four - six sessions, with one or two sessions per week, depending on doctor's recommendations.

  • How much improvement can I expect?

Patients can expect smoothing of wrinkles, and shaping of the body and face. Many patients are so pleased with the results that they decide to have additional areas treated and refer others for treatment.

  • Are the results long term?

Provided you undertake a generally healthy lifestyle and light exercise, results can be maintained over some time. Touch up treatments may be required after 12-18 months.

  • Am I required to do anything before, after or during treatment?

It is very important to try drink at least 2 litres of water the day before, day of, and day after your Exilis treatment. Light exercise and a healthly diet following your treatment is recommended for the best clinical outcome.

  • What are patient constraints?

Radiofrequency skin tightening should not be carried out on any patient who has large amounts of metal in the region to be treated (artificial knees, hips, plates in the spine).  Pregnancy is also a contraindication, or cancer that is not in remission. Patients that have pacemakers that are pregnant or breastfeeding / lactating will not be treated. Please also advise of any metal implants.
