Facial Extractions May Be Hurting Your Skin

Aesthetic Singapore - A facial is a family of skin care treatments for the face, including steam, exfoliation, extraction, creams, lotions, facial masks, peels, and massage. They are normally performed in beauty salons, but are also a common spa treatment. Why are facials important? We'll put it to you this way: you work out to keep in shape and you eat clean to keep healthy. In this same way, you'd get a facial to help prevent and treat common facial aesthetic problems. With the humid weather in Singapore for example, when skin gets oily and result in breakouts, facials can dramatically help put these, and other issues we may encounter right.

What is an extraction?

Simply put, an extraction is the manual means of clearing a pore that has become clogged with excess sebum (oil produced by glands in your skin) and dead skin cells. Pimples, depending on size, can also be extracted. Extractions are often performed as part of a facial.

What happens during an extraction?

First, the skin will be cleansed and a fluid or enzyme is applied to the skin with steam for a few minutes, to soften the skin and prepare it for easier extractions. Next, extractions are performed under bright light, so that it's easier to see the pores that require deeper treatment. Pressure is applied around the pore to extract the contents. This may be done using fingers or a special metal tool designed for this purpose. Extractions can be painful and lengthy.

There are downsides to extractions that may leave your skin less aesthetically presentable.

1. Redness and Irritation The most common side effects of an extraction are redness and blotchy skin due to pressure exerted.

2. Breakouts Post-facial breakouts may occur due to bacteria that makes its way into the skin during extractions.

3. Scarring When fingers or tools to extract impurities from your pores, there is a risk of damaging the outer layer of your skin. Overly vigorous extractions can cause cuts and bleeding.

4. Dryness Harsh exfoliation can leave your skin feeling dried out and itchy.

THE SOLUTION: The TRANSDERMAL FACIAL AT MENDIS AESTHETICS

Mendis Aesthetics, a premier medical aesthetics clinic located in the heart of Orchard Road in Singapore, offers its clients the Transdermal Facial treatment.

The Transdermal Facial is made up of 2 steps:

Microdermabrasion is a gentle aesthetic method of deep exfoliation where dead skin cell, pore-clogging debris and superficial pigmentation of the topmost layer of skin are lifted off using a diamond tip.

A radiant, fresh, smooth and renewed glow is revealed because whiteheads and blackheads are diminished. If you have acne, you will find this step to be particularly useful to you. This is because microdermabrasion is effective in helping to control acne too. It creates a healthier environment where new skin cells regenerate naturally.

The reason microdermabrasion is done prior to transdermal therapy is because it increases the level of absorption, allowing for controlled exfoliation, removing of dead cells and scarred tissue.

2. Transdermal Delivery of Products

After microdermabrasion is complete, an ampoule of retinol (also known as Vitamin A) is applied to the face. It is followed by the introduction of the transdermal hand-piece which uses dermo-electroporation, a technique which allows the opening of cell junctions for optimal delivery of retinol into the outermost layer of skin, resulting in rejuvenation.

Unlike an extraction, the Transdermal Facial is a completely relaxing procedure without any unpleasant feelings of pain or trauma. It stimulates microcirculation and promotes tissue regeneration, aiding in skin resurfacing and treating a range of skin abnormalities effectively.
